Rabbits have their own language, and sometimes its hard to understand them. Here is a small language dictionary. Hope this helps in desiphering what your furry friend is saying!
Noises:
Peeping: An anxious complainig sound A young rabbit in the nest makes when cold and hungry
Fussing: Short, fast, scolding sounds one after another When rabbit is returned to cage against will
Growling: from a buck before and after mating
Snarling: express defense and aggression. Lighning fast attack may follow.
Squealing: When deathly afraid When seized by a dog
Teeth Gnashing:Sign of pain. Eyes are dull and dim and animal is apathetic.
Slight Grinding Soundof Jaws: sign of contentment When animal is being scratched/pet.
Behavior Patterns:
Standing on hind legs:gets a goodview and can nibble on overhanging high branches
Rolling: feels good
Gentle nudging with nose: Greeting each other.Means, "Pleasestrokeme"
Vigorous pushing away your hand: Doesn't want to be disturbed
Licking: Means,"I like you."
Cowering: Rabbit presses it self flat on the floor with ears laid back, head down. Gesture of subordibation. can also display posture to you.
Relax crouching,ears laid back: Is resting and shouldn't be disturbed.
Side Position: Legs are out stretched, eyes closed. Wants to sleep.
Chin Rubbing: Marking his territory
Thumping foot on ground: Danger or wants attention (depends on circumstance).
Gentle nip: Means, "I don't like what you're doing."
